Upcoming Trip: Holiday Tour of Middle Georgia

Calling All Golden Agers! You’re invited to join Bro. Shad on a fun, one-day Holiday Tour of Middle Georgia on Friday, November 18, 2011. We will leave the church at 7 AM.

Our first stop will be for lunch at the world famous “Whistle Stop Café” in Juliette, Georgia. The “Whistle Stop” is best known for being the filming location of the Oscar nominated movie “Fried Green Tomatoes”. (Yes, they serve Fried Green Tomatoes and they are GOOD!) The restaurant still looks just the way it did in the movie. There will be plenty of opportunities for pictures! (Note: Be careful if you get the BBQ…you’d have to have seen the movie to understand this.)

After a delicious, Southern meal, we’ll board the bus and head back in time. Actually, all the way back to 1932 as we visit Franklin D. Roosevelt’s Little White House in Warm Springs, Georgia. Roosevelt built the Little White House in 1932 while governor of New York, prior to being inaugurated as our 32nd president in 1933. He first came to Warm Springs in 1924 hoping to find a cure for the infantile paralysis (polio) that had struck him in 1921. While posing for a portrait on April 12, 1945, FDR suffered a stroke and died a short while later at the Little White House. Today, the “Unfinished Portrait” is featured in a museum there that showcases many exhibits, including FDR’s 1938 Ford convertible with hand controls, his Fireside Chats playing over a 1930s radio, his stagecoach and a theater.

After we take in all the history of the Little White House, we’ll get back on the bus and head over to the historic village of Warm Springs for another time of food and fellowship at The Bulloch House. One thing we know how to do is find good places to eat! You’ll love the southern specialties at The Bulloch House. After dinner, we’ll head to our final stop on the Middle Georgia Tour, beautiful Callaway Gardens for a very special Christmas holiday treat. We will ride aboard an open air trolley through the spectacular “Fantasy in Lights”. Larger-than-life lighted scenes, music, a 22,000-square-foot Christmas Village, holiday decor and more make this one of those special experiences you’ll always treasure. A total of over 8 million lights sparkle in the crisp, southern night at “Fantasy in Lights”. You don’t want to miss out on this special time of food, fun, and fellowship!

The cost for this trip will be around $55/per person. This price includes the price of meals and admission to the attractions. You can make plans to go on the Holiday Tour by contacting Betty or Deborah Dunn today!
